The holidays are a joyful time for sharing good times with families and friends; an opportunity to get together to eat, drink, and share gifts with one another.
For some families, the holidays are not always a merry time. With the continuing tough economy, many families are struggling to find work and wondering how food is going to get on the table–let alone buy gifts for their children—especially for women who have left their abusers and are struggling to get on their feet.
That is why DVC will once again be coordinating with community individuals and businesses, to Adopt A Family and provide a family in need with something to celebrate this holiday season. Donations can range from gift cards to full scale gift giving. Details about each family member, their age and gender, along with the individual requests they provided the agency, will be included so that each gift can be made more personal. Tell us what size family you would like to adopt, and if you would like to adopt more than one, and we will send you the details. The names of the family members are kept confidential for privacy reasons.
You can Adopt A Family as an individual, or you can round up friends, colleages, neighbors, church groups, etc to fulfill the needs of a larger family or adopt multiple families!
To submit a request to Adopt A Family click HERE. Additional details, such as where to drop off gifts, etc., will be provided once we receive your request.
We are also accepting food donations and grocery gift cards. Remember, many of these families are also struggling to put food on the table.
If you would like to drop off a food donation, or if you have any questions on how you can help make the season brighter for a family in need, contact DVC at (661) 259-8175
For 2012 we adopted out 30 families, for a total of 128 individuals adopted!!!
We would like to thank Bank of America, In & Out, Soroptimists, Sam’s Club, Canyon Country Optimist Club and all the individual families who helped make the holidays a special time for our clients and their children. We are so fortunate for all of the support we receive from our community!
Here is a letter from one our families expressing gratitude for their holiday gifts-
“I want to thank you for all the gifts my daughters and I received from DVC. It was wonderful for me and my daughters to receive all the beautiful surprises from all the kind people with such big hearts.
I am going through a hard time with no job for the last 4 months, and we really had a nice Christmas because of you. No matter the size of the gift, the best thing is knowing that there are still people out there with a good heart that give us happiness when we need it the most. Thank you so much, from me and my daughters.”
